YES means YES
YES means YES pays tribute to the anti-rape slogan from the human rights era, no means no. The updated slogan aims to reinforce consent and shift the language into a positive frame. Beneath the surface is a message of empowerment. The slogan suggests to your inner voice – say yes to yourself. Say yes you are worth it, yes you are strong, yes you are smart, and of course, yes to all the same outwardly – YES to equal pay, YES to equal access, YES to equal treatment!
The work borrows the aesthetics of Barbara Krueger, in font (Futura Bold Oblique) and red (formula ff0000) to reference the all-powerful media combat herself! This work was created in the current dark political era where sexism, racism, and gender discrimination is rampant and welcome. The devastating decisions and behaviors of the current governmental administration have caused a community wide/world-wide threat to human rights.
