Hobbit House

2007

As co-director of this installation, I facilitated the education and construction of this sustainable building with a growing roof. The Hand Sculpted House was constructed mainly by a team of at-risk youths, and is displayed at The Children’s Museum of Tampa Kid’s City, an education outdoor exhibit of a miniature city. Together, we inserted the element of sustainable architecture that is not currently incorporated at Kid’s City or in American cities in general. Politically, this piece challenges the current establishment of capitalism, the construction industry in material and process; it is also proudly located across from a mini McDonalds. The Youth’s nicknamed the building the Hobbit House.
