Station Garden

Station Garden

2010

The Joshua Station is a local transition shelter for the homeless. Housing over fifty children and thirty parents, the shelter works to reintegrate families into society assisting with housing, employment, finances, and therapy. I was approached by the Education Specialist to create a garden at the shelter. I accepted under the terms that I could create a food supply within the garden and also have weekly contact with the children for education. Over a period of two years, together with volunteers and donations, the community garden was established. Today, it continues to grow and provides the opportunity for residents to have access to fresh food. The space also provides a sitting area and a sand box for residents to enjoy.
